Prosthetic Reconstruction

This patient came into the office with exactly what you see in the before pictures. He did not have any teeth that he could chew with properly. He also stated that he didn't like to smile. His main goal was to be able to chew again. Of course, there are many different treatment options - all of which were discussed in detail with the patient. Implants were not an option for the patient due to financial considerations. Secondarily, he wanted to try to save his lower teeth. Therefore, he decided to have an upper complete immediate denture and a lower partial denture. Immediate dentures are dentures that are placed the same day as the surgery (the teeth removed).

This allows the patient to be able to have teeth right away without a long period of healing. In the first step of the process, his mandibular tori, which are bony growths on the inside of the lower jaw, were removed. This allowed the lower partial to be much more comfortable and fit better. His lower teeth were thoroughly cleaned. Then, impressions were taken of his upper and lower jaws. An immediate denture and a lower partial denture were fabricated. The immediate denture and lower partial were placed the same day as his remaining upper teeth were taken out. All stages of this process, including the tori removal, were completed in our office! After just a short period of time, the patient can now smile and chew foods with confidence. As mentioned, this is just one possible treatment option. Dr. Eltzroth will go over all the treatment options that will work best for you.
